China rare earth. We called this one.

Reported today China ending exports fully or intend to reduce exports 30% REE. I am Paris is the first, but either it should be surprising regular readers of this blog.

Mode back a year earlier, in "China U.S. Dispute rare premières.Terres Are Key ingredients" that we wrote the China plan to reduce its exports of rare earths and how that may affect the various industries: ""

That [WTO] complaint highlights a major problem for global trade on the road. Modern industry relies on some metals are actually quite rare. If the export of these metals is disrupted, it will cause severe dislocations in many high-tech and other companies. China, the big problem is actually not listed above metals. The big problem is rare. China is currently massively REE-the largest supplier in the world, with more than 90% of the market. Rare earths are essential to producing magnets required for electric cars and some components used in the manufacture of wind power turbine engines. China recently imposed restrictions on the export of REE. It is clearly political China to force gradually making all of China rare occurring in China.Without the location input alternative, China is in a position to dominate the market for the production of electric cars during many années.Cela can probably explain why Berkshire Hathaway Warren Buffet has chosen to buy BYD Company, an electric car company and China on battery.[Full disclosure: Dan since an investor in the Berkshire Hathaway nearly buffet-realized investments made his alma mater, Grinnell College, "the richest liberal arts college" in the world]

On a similar strategy, China seeks to control the market of the other major minerals in strategic purchases outside the Chine.Certains minerals target are Platinum chrome and sand siliceux.Plaise or not, China's approach is much more likely to succeed than filing disputes in the WTO.
