Here's Your First Look at Carey Mulligan Playing Daisy For Baz Luhrman's Great Gatsby

Looks like the rumors were true - Baz Luhrman has selected Carey Mulligan for the part of Daisy in his adaptation of The Great Gatsby. First Spiderman goes British with Andrew Garfield, and now the lead female in one of the greatest modern American novels follows suit. Get it together, America! Along with the announcement, Luhrman included a picture of Mulligan from rehearsals that gives a taste of what may come. She certainly looks alluring and a bit ethereal here, but what do you think? Is she beautiful enough to completely wreck Leonardo DiCaprio, who is playing Gatsby? Does she trump everyone on the initial not-at-all-short list for the part?

And now for the punchline: While he’s got plenty of casting news, Luhrman told our sister site Deadline, “There are a few elements that I feel need to be resolved before I would categorically state that this is my next film.” Maybe he’s triple checking that Oliver Stone isn’t developing is own Gatsby adaptation so that this project doesn’t go the way of Luhrman’s aborted Alexander the Great biopic.
